Gering, Scottsbluff natives to compete for Miss Nebraska

Two western Nebraska natives will represent Gering and Scottsbluff at the 2019 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition. Saturday night at Mitchell High School, Sheridan Blanco was crowned Miss Scotts Bluff County 2019 and Nikki-Catrina Anderson was crowned Miss Old West Balloon Fest 2019. Both will compete for the title of Miss Nebraska 2019 next summer, the official state preliminary for the Miss America Organization.

Blanco, an 18-year old graduate of Gering High School, won more than $600 in cash scholarships, in addition to a $2,000 scholarship to Western Nebraska Community College. Blanco was also the recipient of the 2019 Teresa Scanlan Scholarship, donated by Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, who was crowned in Scottsbluff before becoming Miss Nebraska and later, Miss America.

Anderson, a 22-year old Brigham Young University student from Scottsbluff, won awards for Overall Talent and Overall Interview. She has now won more than $9,000 in cash scholarships through the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Program, and in-kind college scholarships to Western Nebraska Community College, Midland University and Bellevue University.

Tiffany Connelly was named 1st Runner Up in the competition. Caylen Calderon was named 2nd Runner Up. Allie Mekalon was honored with the Spirit Award. In total, the Scotts Bluff County Fair Pageant awarded an estimated $3,200 in cash scholarships to the seven women who competed.

Two teen winners were also named Saturday night. Jadyn Wetherington was crowned Miss Scotts Bluff County’s Outstanding Teen and the Overall Interview Award winner; Chloe Blumanthal was named Miss Old West Balloon Fest’s Outstanding Teen and voted Miss Congeniality. Both teens will represent the Scotts Bluff County area at the Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen competition next Spring. Lexie Jackson was named 1st Runner Up and the Talent Award winner; Jessica Spleichal was named 2nd Runner Up.
