FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 21, 2018
Two former Miss Nebraska’s and an award winning sports broadcaster will be key figures in the 2018 Miss Nebraska competition, the official preliminary to the historic Miss America Pageant.
For the second year in a row, Miss Nebraska 2011 Kayla Jacox and NTV Sports Director Dave Griek will host the 2018 Miss Nebraska competition. The event, now in its 81st year, will award the state’s brightest and most promising young women a record-setting $70,000 in cash, gifts and services, as well as more than $1.4 million in offered college scholarships.
Jacox and Griek hosted a preliminary night of competition during the 2017 state competition, drawing laughs throughout the crowd with their comedic banter and extensive backgrounds in public speaking. Jacox was a Non-Finalist Talent Winner at the 2012 Miss America Pageant, as well as the national Miss Congeniality Award recipient. Griek is a veteran broadcaster with years of experience covering high school, collegiate and professional sports. He is also the founder of LOSS, Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors.
This year’s event will be co-produced by Miss Nebraska 2012 Mariah Cook, her first year leading the competition from behind the scenes. Cook, a native of Chadron and a current teacher in Colorado, has been an annual supporter of the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Program, notably through her sponsorship of the state Miss Congeniality Award. Each night of the production will include special entertainment, awards and a showcase of the intelligence and talents of the 15 young women competing to become Miss Nebraska.
Tickets for all three nights of competition, taking place June 7-9 in North Platte, are available for purchase online at www.missnebraska.org. For the second year, the 2018 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition will also be streamed live online around the world, available for purchase at www.missnebraska.org/2018-pageant-info.
