First preliminary for 2019 Miss Nebraska Competition to be held Saturday in Holdrege
For the first time, organizers will crown a Miss Phelps County and Miss Swedish Days, women who will represent the Holdrege area at the 2019 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition. The event will take place Saturday, June 16 at North Park Assembly, 110 14th Avenue in Holdrege. The production begins at 6:30pm and is open to the public. It will be hosted by Miss Nebraska 2018 Jessica Shultis, just awarded the state title last weekend.
The organization plans to crown two young women who will spend the next year volunteering in their communities with a focus on personal platforms of service. They will each be awarded $200 in cash scholarships and qualify to compete for the title of Miss Nebraska 2019 next summer, the official state preliminary for the Miss America Organization. A $100 cash scholarship will be awarded to the 1st Runner Up, as well as $200 in cash scholarships to a Community Service Award winner.
“We are excited to have a local pageant in this area again,” said Chris Tooley, Field Director for the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Program. “By partnering with Local Director Michele Catlett, we have the opportunity to provide up to two more young women with scholarships, and a chance to compete for the title of Miss Nebraska in June 2019.”
At the 2018 Miss Nebraska Competition, contestants were awarded an estimated $70,000 in cash scholarships, prizes and services, and offered more than $1.4 million in in-kind college scholarships.
