Former Miss America donating to upcoming Miss Scotts Bluff County Fair Competition
14 young women from western Nebraska will compete for the titles of Miss Scotts Bluff County, Miss Scotts Bluff County Outstanding Teen, Miss Old West Balloon Fest and Miss Old West Balloon Fest Outstanding Teen. Opening Ceremonies will be held at the Monument Mall in Scottsbluff, Sunday, July 22 starting at 2:00pm. The competition will take place Saturday, July 28 at 7:00pm at Mitchell High School. This year, all seven Miss contestants will receive at least $100 in cash scholarships, donated by Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, who was crowned in Scottsbluff before becoming Miss Nebraska and later, Miss America.
Each titleholder will be awarded cash scholarships and qualify to compete for the title of Miss Nebraska 2019 next summer, the official state preliminary for the Miss America Organization. 2018 titleholders Makinzie Gregory and Brianna Little will help host the July 28 competition; together, they won a combined $5,000 in cash scholarships at the 2018 Miss Nebraska Competition.
“As my very first pageant, the Scotts Bluff County pageant pushed me to step out of my comfort zone numerous times which, in turn, allowed me to learn and grow in every area of my life,” said Gregory, who was named 2nd Runner Up at the 2018 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition. “Because of this growth, I have become a more confident, well-versed, and articulate young woman.”
A Teen competition will take place simultaneously during the event, awarding two young women local titles, cash scholarships, and the opportunity to compete at the Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen competition in Omaha. The Miss Scotts Bluff County Fair Competition is the largest Miss Nebraska/Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen preliminary in western Nebraska.
“The title of Miss Scotts Bluff County has opened up so many doors to share my message with others and to grow as a person,” said Little. “I love being able to go up to the kids I’ve visited in schools or talked to at events and listen to them talk about how important it is to be kind to others. Along the way, I’ve also become more confident in myself and ready to conquer the world than I have ever been.”
The 2019 Miss Nebraska Competition will take place June 2-8, 2019 in North Platte, Nebraska. For more information, photos and interview requests, please visit www.missnebraska.org, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
