Orientation Weekend Focuses on Leadership and Service

Many of the 15 women who will compete for the title of Miss Nebraska this summer joined in North Platte, Nebraska over the weekend for orientation and for the Miss America Serves annual philanthropic event.

Orientation weekend is an annual event intended for Nebraska’s local titleholders to meet and strengthen relationships, meet the Little Sisters they will mentor this summer, and to prepare and plan for the upcoming Miss Nebraska Competition June 7-9 in North Platte.

“I’m so excited to get to spend Miss Nebraska week with this little firecracker,” said Miss Fur Trade Days Tristen Wecker, visiting with her Little Sister at the annual Princess Party Friday night. “Meet Delaney, the next Miss Nebraska 2028!”

Contestants also took part in Miss America Serves, an annual, nationwide event uniting titleholders from across the country through service, a key component of the Miss America Organization. Miss Nebraska titleholders spent the afternoon volunteering with Guardians of the Children Family Appreciation Day at the D&N Event Center.

“These kids are truly inspiring,” said Miss Nebraska State Fair Courtney Pelland. “I had a sword fight with a little boy, got locked up in ‘jail’ with my Miss Nebraska sisters, had a little girl tell me I was amazing, and made a teenaged girl very excited when I came up to talk to her. These are the moments I live for as a titleholder and I can’t wait to experience more.”

The contestants will reunite in North Platte on Sunday June 3 as Miss Nebraska week begins.

The 2018 Miss Nebraska Pageant takes place June 6-9 in North Platte, Nebraska and will be streamed LIVE online. For more information, visit us online at www.missnebraska.org or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/missnebraskaorg/.
