Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen Kelsie Therkildsen encouraged, supported by dozens of family members, friends and volunteers
Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen 2018 Kelsie Therkildsen was the star of a send-off party Saturday, as the Bennington teenager prepares to compete at the 2019 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in Orlando, Florida.
Therkildsen, 16, won the state title in April, along with more than $2,300 in cash scholarships and $10,000 in additional gifts and services. She has since been volunteering, making appearances throughout Nebraska, and preparing for national competition. Miss America’s Outstanding Teen is the partner program to the Miss America Organization; since creation in 2005, the program has made more than $33 million dollars in cash and in-kind scholarships available to teenagers across the country.
Saturday, loved ones and volunteers hosted a party for Therkildsen to help raise money for her expenses, and to show her their support. Therkildsen will compete in talent, confidence in evening wear, interview including on-stage questions, and physical fitness.
“We believe nationals preparation is extremely important, not only for the growth and maturity of our titleholder, but to show appreciation for a program that has a history of awarding full ride scholarships just for showing up in Orlando,” said Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen Directors Kali Tripp and Heather Edwards. Both will accompany Therkildsen to Orlando.
Therkildsen will leave for Florida next month; preliminary competition at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen will take place July 24-26, with finals taking place on July 28.
The Miss Nebraska’s Outstanding Teen program is currently accepting applications from teenagers interested in competing for the state title in 2019.
