Vocalists Crowned Miss Nebraska State Fair & Miss Heartland

Vocalists crowned Miss Nebraska State Fair and Miss Heartland

Two talented vocalists shined on stage in Grand Island Saturday, winning the titles of Miss Nebraska State Fair and Miss Heartland. Allison Baird, a 20-year old Doane University student, was crowned Miss Nebraska State Fair. Allie Swanson, a 23-year old graduate of Evangel University, was crowned Miss Heartland. Both are awarded $800 in cash scholarships, $100 gift certificates from the Black Swan Dress Boutique, and will compete at the 2019 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition.

Baird, who also won the Overall Interview Award, is a Vocal Performance and Theater Major and has starred in productions across the state. She will perform for the American Legion Post No.1 in Omaha next month, at a special Screening of Freedom Flight. Baird was also named 1st Runner Up at the 2018 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition, winning $4500 in cash scholarships.

Swanson, who also won the Overall Talent Award, recently performed the National Anthem for an estimated 22,000 people at the 2018 College World Series in Omaha. Swanson was named 3rd Runner Up at the 2018 Miss Nebraska Scholarship Competition and the Miss Nebraska Community Service Award for her work promoting cyber safety and awareness, for a total of $2500 in cash scholarships.

Nikki-Catrina Anderson, a 22-year old student attending Brigham Young University-Provo, was named 1st Runner Up and awarded a $250 cash scholarship. Four other women also competed at the competition Saturday at College Park Theatre in Grand Island.

The next qualifying competitions within the Miss Nebraska Scholarship Program are the Miss Scotts Bluff County competition in Scottsbluff on Saturday, July 28, and the Miss Kool-Aid Days competition in Hastings on Sunday, July 29. At the 2018 Miss Nebraska Competition, contestants were awarded an estimated $70,000 in cash scholarships, prizes and services, and offered more than $1.4 million in in-kind college scholarships.
