Preliminary competition at the 2017 Miss Nebraska Pageant continued Thursday night in North Platte, as two more young women were honored with awards and cash scholarships.
Allison Tietjen, Miss Heartland, won Thursday night’s Preliminary Talent Award and a $500 cash scholarship sponsored by Miss Nebraska Little Sister Alumni. Allison, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln student, performed a piano piece from Phantom of the Opera. Her parents are Cary and Amy Tietjen of Chester. Tietjen also won Wednesday night’s Preliminary Evening Wear Award.
Jenni Wahonick, Miss Nebraska State Fair, won Thursday night’s Preliminary Evening Wear Award and a $350 cash scholarship sponsored by Hirschfeld’s Prom Shoppe and The Black Swan Dress Boutique. Jenni, a 22-year old special education teacher and graduate of the University of Central Missouri, wore a yellow jersey gown by Ashley Lauren from the Black Swan Dress Boutique.
Thursday’s event was hosted by NTV Sports Director Dave Griek and Miss Nebraska 2013 JaCee (Pilkington) Petko. Preliminary competition began Wednesday night and on Saturday, the Top 8 finalists will compete for the title of Miss Nebraska 2017, $10,000 in cash scholarships and the opportunity to represent Nebraska at the 2018 Miss America Pageant. Tickets are still available and the competition is also available to view online LIVE at www.missnebraska.org. Friday, the organization will host the 80th Miss Nebraska Program Anniversary Gala, featuring dozens of evening gowns worn by past Miss Nebraska’s as they were crowned at their state competitions, and when they competed at the Miss America Pageant. Tickets are still available for purchase at the door.
